Pitch to Image Comics

We found out Image Comics were taking in submissions after returning from MCM, however there was a problem. It was within the week. We decided to try for it anyway, as it could work as good practice. This was the brief:

"Image Comics Pitch Reviews with Eric Stephenson
Venue TBC, Times vary, Free with Saturday/Weekend convention pass, free for under-12s, but an accompanying ticket-holding adult must be present, all ages
This year we are delighted to announce that Image Comics will once again be reviewing pitches for new series at Thought Bubble!
Because of time constraints, the format for reviews will be as follows: Your pitch must be emailed in advance, and if you’re selected, you’ll be called back for a full review by Publisher of Image Comics Eric Stephenson.
Please submit your portfolio to portfolioreviews@thoughtbubblefestival.com by 5pm, Friday 7th November. A confirmation email will be sent before the convention specifying times/location for successful applicants."

Although the pitch was perfect for us, as we are starting a trans-media business. It was a tight deadline, possible too tight. But we got to work, producing a small five page comic, working at industry standard producing a page a day, with a day to produce storyboards and script. Below is the work short comic we created based on Wild-Life.

Unfortunately our pitch was not excepted, and I can see why, the drawings a rushed, the panelling lazy, too many face shots and close ups, the tree's don't seem to fall into the distance, the list is endless. However this did give us an idea of how pitching works, and that Image are a great company to pitch too.
