We first came up with the idea of our 'Animal-Cowboy' world in 2012. This is when we (Me and Stuart) were in the Foundation course at Leeds College of Art. We saw a wildlife safari video named 'The Battle at Kruger' available here -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LU8DDYz68kM This film about a wider-beast baby that is attacked by lions, dragged to a lake, and then fought over by the lions and a crocodile, before the wider-beasts charge at the lions to reclaim the still-alive baby. This inspired us to anthropomorphise the animals, turn them into characters and use the incredible story as a basis for our film that you can view here -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoBjH0Yf2e4 We made the set and characters ourselves our of bird houses, guinea pig houses, doll houses and alot of sand. The charcters where made from marvel legends, Papo animals and clothes from slideshow collectibles, Hot toys and some made by ourselves.
We worked on these characters when we could and created this piece before attending our current course. It widened our world a little, and made us realise that while this work was weak, the idea was strong.
This gave us the inspiration for the world, we didn't have much time to keep this project going, as we had many on the go, but occasionally we would use the world in college briefs, such as the video game level (OUDF406) Which featured an early version of the Walrus Pirate, and the Game art Machinema Project (OUDF505) Which featured Platypus Bill (Stuarts character) and a very early version of Sawyer, so early, here he has a different name 'Bucky Carson' (My Character).
