Researching the map: Little Big Planet

A similar idea to this can be seen in the first Little big Planet story missions. You are taken all over the world without being told were you are, but you instantly know by the scenery. The time periods historically do not fit together but it works  so well as you are simply taking these amazing times and combining them. The audience loves to see these vastly different lands and times in the same story that they forget, or do not care that it is historically inaccurate, this can also be forgiven as it is a fictional world. Much like how people do not care that the T-rex never lived at the same time as the stegosaurus, it actually lived nearer to the time humans roamed the earth than the stegosaurs, as dinosaurs roamed the earth for so long. But nobody cares about historical accuracy when you can make something more fun and engaging by doing it slightly differently.
