In the last chapter of Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy we see batman deal with a villain who can and does overpower him physically and push batman to his limits, with not only his life on the line but his beloved Gotham aswell as Bane wrecks havoc. This is a tension filled, two and a half hour fight for Gotham, and for the first time the audience is unsure if Batman will die in this chapter due to the comic its based on and the advertisements hinting at the heroes ultimate fall.
