Legacy Effects

in Thor, the travel using a 'bifrost bridge' in which is a machine which sends  the characters to other planets at the speed of light, they shoot up into the air, travel through space, whilst i love this idea, i don think i can go down a route that is too sci-fi as i do not have the expertise to make it look realistic, i would like to look further into it though.
